With hearts full of gratitude for a life beautifully lived, the family of Jesús Socorro Ramírez Ramírez announces his peaceful passing at the age of 93, surrounded by those who loved him. Those who knew him remember his cheerful, good‑humored presence, his steadfast faith, and his generous heart. A man of deep Catholic faith, Jesús lived with humility, devotion, and a quiet strength that shaped every life he touched. He now rejoins his wife of 56 years, Margarita Baca Ramírez, who preceded him in returning to our Father in Heaven.
Born in Tampico, Tamaulipas, and raised in Valle de Santiago, Guanajuato, Jesús learned early the values of hard work and responsibility as the eldest son helping on his family’s ejido. Those early years prepared him for a journey that would take him far from home. At 18, he entered the Bracero Program, beginning a path marked by courage, sacrifice, and perseverance. After short-term agricultural contracts in San Diego, he found his true calling as a trusted ranch hand on a San Diego ranch owned by railroad heiress Catherine Spencer, where he worked faithfully for 25 years.
It was during one of his yearly visits to Mexico that his life changed forever—he met the love of his life, Margarita. Their marriage was rooted in faith, nightly prayers, and a deep commitment to family. As a father, he was a steady presence—gentle, patient, and unwavering in his devotion. After moving to Gilroy to be closer to Margarita’s family in the Salinas Valley, Jesús worked for rancher Chester “Chet” Behen, President of the Salinas Rodeo Association, for 30 years, becoming an essential and respected part of ranch life.
Jesús was known for his kindness, generosity, and instinctive compassion. He helped relatives immigrate to the United States, opening his home in Tijuana while they completed their residency process. During the 1970s in San Diego, when migrants crossed the ranch property seeking agricultural work in Central California, Jesús offered them food without hesitation. He welcomed relatives and nephews in times of hardship, giving them shelter and support until they could stand on their feet again. To those he helped, his generosity was not simply kindness—it was a lifeline, offered without judgment and with a humility that honored his roots and magnified his spirit.
A gifted musician and storyteller, Jesús filled family gatherings with songs, laughter, and vivid tales from his Bracero days. At roundups—where neighboring ranchers worked together—he often entertained cowboys at the post‑work barbecues with his music. Even after a serious injury ended his ranching career, he reinvented himself as a barber, earning a loyal clientele through skill, warmth, and dedication.
In retirement, Jesús and Margarita moved to Tijuana and became active members of their parish. They joined annual pilgrimages honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe, walking between Tijuana, Rosarito, Ensenada, and Tecate, spending nights in tents and at the monastery in Tecate. Retirement also brought them the joy of travel—something they had never been able to do before—visiting Rome, the Holy Land, Hawaii, Florida, and many parts of Mexico.
They later returned to Gilroy to be near their grandchildren. Jesús delighted in singing Las Mañanitas at every birthday celebration and cheering proudly at his grandchildren’s sporting events. He and Margarita were regulars at the Gilroy Senior Center and faithful Sunday diners at Denny’s after Mass, where every server knew them by name.
In his later years, as a resident of Pacific Hills Manor in Morgan Hill, Jesús became affectionately known simply as “the cowboy,” always seated in the halls wearing his signature hat. Faith played an essential role in Jesús’s later years, grounding him each day as he attended Mass at St. Catherine whenever he was able.
Family was the foundation of Jesús’s life, the love he held closest to his heart, and those bonds remain at the center of his legacy.
He is survived by his beloved sister, Josefina Ramírez Ramírez, his last remaining sibling.
He is survived by his children:
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Mellyna, Luis Adrian, Veronica, Emilio, Andre, Jesus Javier (JJ), and Diego.
He is preceded in death by his daughter‑in‑law, Susan Deremer Ramírez.
Jesús now rejoins his siblings Felicitas, Salvador, and Guadalupe, and his parents Pedro Ramírez Moreno and Carmen Ramírez Chávez, in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior.
He leaves behind a legacy of faith, resilience, generosity, and love—a legacy carried forward by his children, grandchildren, his sister Josefina, and all who were blessed to know him. We entrust him now to God’s eternal embrace, where joy has no end. May the perpetual light shine upon him.
