IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jeniel May
Prothero Dickson
February 22, 1939 – November 22, 2021
Jeniel May Prothero Dickson, 82, of Hollister, California, passed away early on November 22, 2021 in her home of causes related to Parkinson's disease.
Jeniel was born in Provo, Utah to Walt & Merlyn Prothero on February 22, 1939. She had one older brother, Wally. She graduated from Provo High School in 1957. She married L. Brent Dickson on August 15, 1956 and the young couple lived in Utah until 1962. During that time, they welcomed Brian, Brenda and Dennis into the family. Upon Brent's graduation from college, they moved to Mesa Arizona. They lived in Mesa from1963-1969 where Richard and Loren were added to the family. In 1969, they moved to Sunnyvale California which became their main residence for 44 years. James soon joined the family and Jeniel raised all of her children in Sunnyvale. After being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, she and Brent moved to Hollister in 2013.
Jeniel's focus in life was raising her children and serving in the church. She was always welcoming to those who needed a friend and a listening ear. Meals were always shared with those in need of fellowship. She and Brent served a mission for the church February 2004 - August 2005. They served in Christchurch England where they developed many friendships and lifted the spirits of all they worked with. Afterwards, at Jeniel's invitation, many of those friends visited and stayed in their California home for weeks. She also served in the Oakland Temple for more than 15 years.
But her primary work was within her family. She always had a passion for large family get-togethers for birthdays and holidays. Her doors were always open to family members and their friends. She was especially welcoming to those joining the family through marriage, wanting everyone to feel her love. The cabin in Cold Springs was a joyous place for family reunions and wholesome activities building a unity within the family. She truly is the heart and great matriarch of the family. She will be greatly missed.
Jeniel is preceded in death by her parents, Walt and Merlyn Prothero; her brother Wally and sister-in-law, Diane; and her son Dennis.
Jeniel is survived by her husband Brent Dickson; and her children Brian & Debbie Dickson, Brenda & Randy Griffith, Jan Dickson, Richard & Tammy Dickson, Loren & Annette Dickson and James & Kelly Dickson. She also is survived by 25 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren!
Funeral services will be held 11am Friday, December 3, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1670 Cienega Rd, Hollister, CA 95023. A public viewing will precede the funeral at 10am. Burial will follow at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park in Gilroy, CA.
Another of Jeniel's passions was creating greeting cards with her stamping group. At the graveside in Gilroy, you are welcome to place a stamped card on the casket as part of the burial ceremony.
