Javier Ponce Hurtado, age 73 of Gilroy, California was called home to the arms of God on August 3, 2021, where his grandfather, Epitacio Ponce Ornelas, grandmother, Dominga Ramirez, father, Servando Hurtado Garcia, mother, Lorenza Ponce Ramirez, brothers Sergio and Gustavo, his sister Maria Teresa Hurtado Ponce, and his daughter, Angelita Hurtado await him. Mr Hurtado is survived by his siblings, Marisela, Norma Aida, Ana Maria, Aureo Miguel and Veronica Hurtado Ponce. As the oldest brother, he was a strong example for his siblings who will remember him always as a great man.

Born Servando Javier Hurtado Ponce on July 18, 1948, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Javier left home to live with his grandfather in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico at the age of 13. In 1970, he moved to San Jose, California with his uncle. A year later, he was married and move to Gilroy where he started a family.

Mr. Hurtado was an active member of Saint Mary's Parish. He dedicated his life to the study of the Bible and the lives of the saints. He studied for a year with the order of Apostles of the Divine Mercy and was consecrated to the order on Oct. 5, 2008, by Father Hugo Rojas. Shortly thereafter he was called to serve the group as their president. He remained president until the day of his death. The membership remembers Mr. Hurtado as a joyous man whose support for the group and its members was unwavering.

He leaves behind an extensive legacy full of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a loving father and will be missed dearly by his children; Roxann Guajardo, Sandra and Tito Pompa, Javier Luis Hurtado, Ricardo and Jasmine Hurtado, Anna Hurtado and James Orr, Emmanuel Hurtado and Reina Barriga, and Carlos Hurtado. He was a joyful and generous grandfather to Kevin Isiah, Kiana, and Jevon Briscoe; Dominique Jenae (DJ), Janessa, Mayah, and Jae Pompa, Flaco, Giana Harris, her yet to be born sister, and her siblings Javin and Jarren as well as Elijah, and Emmelia Hurtado. Mr. Hurtado was also the kind and playful great-grandfather of Aria and Isla Briscoe.

Services for Mr. Hurtado will be held at Saint Mary's Church on August 11, 2021 beginning at 9:00 am with a Rosary led by the members of the Apostles of the Divine Mercy, followed by a bilingual mass at 10:00 am. He will be laid to rest at Saint Mary's Cemetery following the mass.

El Sr. Hurtado fue también el bisabuelo amable y juguetón de Aria e Isla Briscoe.

Los servicios fúnebres del Sr. Hurtado se llevarán a cabo en la Iglesia de Santa María el 11 de agosto de 2021.
