It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of James Garcia. James was born in Hollister, California to the late Annie and Phillip Garcia. He resided in Prunedale, California for over 30 years.
He was the beloved father of James Garcia Jr., and Laura Garcia-Hessling (George), brother to Philip Garcia (Roberta), and significant other to Cindy Hernandez. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Alexandria Garcia, Amanda Alameda, Manuel Lopez, Samantha Lopez, Nathan and Philip Hessling and five great grandchildren, as well as numerous aunts and cousins and a host of tight-knit friends ("my brothers from another mother").
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, retired as a computer/copier service technician. He became an active member of the American Legion where he was a volunteer for many, many years. He initiated annual fundraising activities and created the "free lunch" Thursdays, as well as hosting annual free holiday meals for the community on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
A vigil will be held on Wednesday, February 12th at 7:00 pm, Habing Family Funeral Home,129 4th Street, Gilroy, California. Mass at St. Mary's Church on Thursday, February 13th at 9:30 am, proceeding to internment at San Joaquin National Cemetery, 32053 West McCabe Road, Gustine, California 95322.
He will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to know him.
