GILROY, California - Irene (Medeiros) Mello, 87, of Gilroy passed away peacefully on the morning of August 30, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.

Born in Fall River, MA, she was last of the 13 children born to the late Manuel and Jorgina (Luiz) Medeiros Grota. She was married for 63 years to her loving husband, Ricardo (Rick) Mello and is survived by her daughters, Lynn Mello (husband - Glenn Skogen) and Tina Mark (husband – Robert), her grandchildren Kerner and Ava Mark, and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Mello had a long and successful career in Silicon Valley until her retirement from National Semiconductor in 1997.  She enjoyed cultivating a warm and beautiful home most of all, and her hobbies included sewing, crochet, indoor gardening, and bowling. She frequented many locations in her community to include the Portuguese I.F.D.E.S. Hall, Gilroy Bowl, Old City Hall and others. She enjoyed shopping in the community and getting together with family as well as friends. She adored her grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her brothers; Manuel, Joseph, Bento, Domingos, John and Henry Grota, Antonio, Agostinho and James Medeiros, and her sister Beatrice (Medeiros) Bravo.

A funeral mass will be held on September 24, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Saint Mary Parish, followed by a memorial reception at 4:00 pm at Old City Hall Restaurant, in Gilroy, CA.
