IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ikelike
Egbuonye
August 30, 1946 – July 21, 2023
Ugochukwu Ikelike Obiajulu Rupert Egbuonye, 76 years old, of Obinagu village, Ire, Obosi, Nigeria, passed away July 21st, 2023, from complications of pneumonia and leukemia. He has been fighting leukemia for over 10 years.
Ikelike was born in Ibadan, Nigeria, on August 30th, 1946, the third of seven children born to Ogbueshi Victor Chukwuemeka Maduegbunam and Mrs. Paulina Nwabundo Egbuonye. Ikelike was known for being very clean and meticulous as a child, and his mother's helper, which is probably why he was a great cook. He had a gentle soul and later in his life he found God, aging made him a better man, a mediator amongst those he loved. He was jovial with the most beautiful, hearty smile and his classic taste for fashion always blew people away. His charm could sweep all the ladies off their feet and his love for politics could warm up the energy in any room.
Ikelike finished his secondary school education at Government College Umuahia, Nigeria in 1960, then he attended The University of Nottingham, England, United Kingdom with a Shell B.P. scholarship to study Mechanical Engineering and graduated in 1974. He later attended University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada where he got a Masters in Structural and Earthquake Engineering and graduated in 1977.
In 1973, Ikelike met the love of his life, Sonia Barbosa, in Nottingham University in England. He was melted away by her connection to Africa as a Brazilian woman. He instantly knew that Sonia was his soulmate and did not waste a minute to make her his wife. They were married in 1974 and a few years later began to grow their family. His two children were his pride and joy: Engineer Flavio W. Obiajulu Barbosa-Egbuonye, Double Masters in Business Administration/Psychology. College Professor/Counselor, Mrs. Claudia M. Binyelum Barbosa-Egbuonye-Daniels, Masters in Counseling Ed. and Business Owner of Adorar Beauty Studio in California.
Ikelike was the founder and President of Altima Systems Tech. (AST), Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria which was a subsidiary of Ugo Technologies, U.S.A. He was a man that always liked to work independently and enjoyed any and everything about computers and the newest technology that he could engineer better than anyone else. His professional career includes employment as a Mechanical and structural engineer with Blume Engineering Inc., Shell Petroleum Development of Nigeria, Qualcomm, Erickson International, Dallas ISD as a consultant. He was a self-taught computer expert and shared his knowledge with everyone. He exemplified the Egbuonye family motto: "there is room at the top and twenty years is not forever". He shared his blessings with his family to include paying school fees for his younger siblings and giving his first check to his mother Nne Ifeo. He was an explorer, never feared relocation and took opportunities to see the world through his work, living in various places like Hong Kong, England, America, Nigeria, Brazil and Canada.
Ikelike loved nothing more than spending time with his two grandsons from his daughter: Jamar Jidenna Jairhzino Exavier Daniels II and Juliano Ekene Daniels. He was also blessed with twin granddaughters: Lyric Daniels and Londyn Daniels. His joy everyday was to watch all the children play and scream in the house. His mornings starts early with his daughter, Claudia, sharing their night dreams and what she could try and get him to eat that day, sharing jokes and African films with his son-in-law, Jamar Daniels, then wrapping up every evening with his daughter to recap her days.
Ikelike was very active in his church 'Our Savior Anglican Church'. He admired the pursuit of higher education and would sponsor young children to obtain their educational dreams. He was also the current serving Treasurer of O.P.S. Houston, Texas (Obosi Progressive Society).
