Humberto (Bert) B. Diaz passed peacefully at his home in Gilroy CA on June 15, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife, Amelia R. Diaz. He is survived by his children, Vanessa Lara (Nick) and Robertina Talamante (Mario); grandchildren Amanda Diaz, Nicole Lara, Alex Kassel (Nate), Nicolas Lara (Erica), Katrina Zamaripa, Nichelle Lara, and many great-grandchildren.
Born in Wichita Falls, Texas on March 26, 1947, eventually the family moved to California in the late 1950s. Married his high-school sweetheart Amelia Rangel in March of 1970. Gilroy High School Graduate of 1965 joined the United States Marine Corps on October 13, 1965 where he grew to rank E-5 Sergeant. He served 4 years with a 14-month tour in Vietnam. He started his boxing debut in Vietnam fighting as a featherweight in the 125-pound class eventually ranking in the States as the featherweight National Golden Glove Champion. During his time in the service, he learned his Digital Electronics skills which ultimately lead him to his 40-year career as an Engineered Land Surveyor. Retiring in 2004 from Santa Clara County, Dept of Roads and Airports.
His favorite past times were listening to his blues music, spending time with grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many of his furry friends and going to the casinos. If you ever passed by his house, you would see the garage door opened with all of his furry friends hanging out. Viewing is set for Monday, June 26, 2023 at 10:00 am, followed by a memorial service at 1:00pm at Habing Family Funeral Home. Private reception to follow at family home.
