Henrietta Perez, a proud U.S. Army veteran, beloved godmother, auntie, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025, at the age of 76.
Born on March 3, 1949, in Gilroy, California, Henrietta was a trailblazer from the start. She graduated from Gilroy High School before answering the call to serve her country. During the Vietnam War, Henrietta served in the U.S. Army, breaking barriers as one of the pioneering women in the armed forces. Her courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to duty were an inspiration to all who knew her.
After her military service, Henrietta returned to Gilroy and built a career in retail, working at TG&Y and later at Walgreens. She became a cherished presence in her community, known for her kindness, her warm smile, and her steadfast work ethic.
Though Henrietta did not have children of her own, she was a loving and devoted godmother, Nina, and "Auntie Henri" to many. Her nurturing spirit, thoughtful advice, and genuine affection made a lasting impact on generations of family and friends. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone around her feel loved and valued.
Henrietta's legacy is one of love, service, and strength. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her extended family, her many godchildren, and the countless lives she touched with her generosity and grace.
A celebration of Henrietta's life will take place in Gilroy, with a visitation at Habing Family Funeral Home on March 12th, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. followed by a vigil service at 6:00 p.m. This will be followed by a Mass at St. Mary's Church on March 13th, 2025, at 10 a.m., where friends and family will come together to honor her remarkable life and service.
