Obituary

Harold "Doogie" Gettman was born in Ft. Morgan, Colorado on September 16, 1945. He attended Ft. Morgan High School and Adams State College where he played baseball and met his wife Cindy Brown. After their marriage, they both moved to San Jose, California to begin their careers in teaching.  Doogie taught Special Education at Silver Creek and Mt. Pleasant High Schools where he also coached varsity baseball. He then became a Special Education Program Specialist for the Eastside Union High School District and ended his career teaching at Oak Grove High School. He enjoyed volunteering for the Special Olympics and Gilroy Garlic Festival for many years. For over 34 years, Doogie loved to make sausage with friends and family. He was known as the "Head Stuffer" at the stuffing parties every spring.  Doogie and Cindy loved to travel and took to the road in their RV at least once a month with many friends and family. He loved to fish, the outdoors, cooking and taking care of his two acres in San Martin. Doogie is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cindy, his two children, Ryan and Amanda, their spouses Anna and Ryan, and his grandchildren Nikolas, Nathan and Brooklyn. He is also survived by two brothers, two sisters and many nieces and nephews. Last but not least, he is survived by his beloved dog, Lincoln.

Services will be held at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy, California on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 10:04am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Special Olympics Northern California at sonc.org .
