Obituary

Age 93, died in Gilroy on August 30, 2014 at his home. He was born November 25, 1920 in Berkeley, California. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and served in the US Navy during WWII as a dirigible pilot. His over 50 year career in the insurance industry started in San Jose with Glens Falls and in 1958 opened Voorhies and Parrish Insurance in Gilroy, which later became Voorhies, Parrish and Hussar. He continued his career with Pacific Diversified Insurance until he was almost 90.

He enjoyed vitality, singing and loving life; sharing good humor with family and friends. A devote Catholic, he was acknowledged for his stewardship by the Vatican. He was an active member of the Elks Club, Knights of Columbus, Saint Mary's Choir, Special Olympics of Northern California and several other charitable organizations. He will be remembered for his zest for life, true appreciation of people and his incredibly fantastic joke and storytelling expertise.

He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Mavis Marten Parrish and his son Marten. He will be greatly missed by his sisters Eileen Beynon (David) and Kathleen Spencer (Douglas), his children Jeffery (Maryanne) Parrish of Walnut Creek, Tony (Terri) Parrish of Petaluma, Heidi (Richard Araujo) Parrish of Gilroy, Scott Parrish of Salinas, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great, great grandson and numerous nieces & nephews.

His family is forever grateful to Angie & her children for their compassionate care over the years and to Hospice in his final months.

Vigil Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014 – 7:00 PM at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.
A Mass will be held at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Gilroy on Friday, September 12, 2014 – 1:00PM.

Burial services at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery will be private.

Donations may be made to Memorial Hospice, Cerebral Palsy of Northern California.
