IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George Eugene
Kievlan, Sr.
July 17, 1927 – February 2, 2023
Services will be held in Gilroy, CA for George Eugene "Gene" Kievlan, Sr. who passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 2, 2023, in El Dorado Hills, CA following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 95 years old.
George was born in Kansas City, KS on July 17, 1927, to George Raymond Sr., and Theresa Frances (Watco) Kievlan. He grew up on a farm in Grandview, MO.
In 1945 George was drafted in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Lewis WA, then transferred to Fort Ord, CA with the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1946 the Kievlan family moved to Santa Cruz, CA. He received an honorable discharge in July 1947. George married Barbara Rounsevell on May 1,1954, in Santa Cruz, CA. They purchased a home shortly after in San Jose, CA where they raised their family of three boys, George Jr, Kelly, and Nelson (Buzz).
After being discharged from the Army, George became a general building contractor, building homes in the Cambrian Park area of San Jose, and the Holiday Lake Estates and Jackson Oaks areas of Morgan Hill. After he retired from building, George and his wife Barbara purchased Morgan Hill Glass Company in 1972. In 1982 they sold the business to their son Kelly Kievlan.
George and Barbara enjoyed traveling. In 1973 they purchased a 27ft Pace Arrow motorhome and traveled the US, Canada, and Mexico. Where there was land, the motorhome traveled. As their traveling experiences grew, they started traveling the world, bringing home a lot of stories and history to their three boys. Pop always said, "Travel while you are young, you will get the most out of life." How true that is.
George was a member of many organizations. He was a Cub Scouts Master for pack 373 in San Jose and moved up to Scout Master for the Boy Scouts Troop 374.
He was a member of the Morgan Hill Masonic Lodge and became master of the lodge. He was also a member of the Shriners in San Jose. He attended many events with the Order of Eastern Star, with his wife Barbara.
George was also very involved in many charitable activities, including the South Santa Clara County Fire District's Christmas Toy Drive each year in Gilroy. He supported this endeavor for over 13 years, along with his wife Barbara Kievlan.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret "Peggy" Nulph of Bonnie Doon, CA and his three sons, George E. Kievlan, Jr. (and wife, Joanne) of Granite Bay, CA, Kelly R. Kievlan (and wife, Kelli) of El Dorado Hills, CA and Nelson "Buzz" R. Kievlan (and wife, Brandy) of Reedley, CA. He was blessed and adored by his four grandchildren, Steven, George III, Cody, and Dylan, and three great granddaughters, Stevie Ray, Taylor, and Kylie as well as several nieces, nephews, and great nieces, and great nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara, sisters Mary and Frances, brothers George Raymond Jr. and Lawrence, (who passed away in his first year of life).
