Obituary

Genevieve Carlon passed away peacefully on Monday, August 21, 2023 after a short illness. She was 88. Genevieve was born on April 10, 1935 in Hollister, California to Benjamin & Rose Tapia.

Genevieve's early years were spent in Hollister with her beloved grandmother, the late Anita Gomes. She moved to Gilroy where she attended Gilroy schools. She was a proud graduate of Gilroy High School, class of 1954. After high school she worked various jobs for a short time before starting her journey into motherhood. In 1962 Genevieve was blessed with her daughter Lisa and in 1969 her son Aaron completed the family.

She is survived by both of her children, Lisa of Martinez, CA and Aaron of Phoenix, AZ. Genevieve was an avid sports fan and was a fixture at all of her daughters sporting events, she also never missed a school event of Aaron's. She enjoyed motherhood and was very involved with her children and their activities never failing in her support for them.

As a single mother challenges were many, but she faced each and everyone with grace and determination to move her family forward. In 1970, her mother Rose began to live with her after losing her sight. Genevieve remained her caregiver for the next 29 years. She was the quintessential mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was a lifelong San Francisco Giant's fan and she enjoyed watching them on tv or in person at Oracle Park. She enjoyed overnight trips to Reno to play the slot machines, she enjoyed a good cup of coffee with good conversation with friends. What she enjoyed most was her family. She once said, "I always wanted to be a mother". She became one to not only her children but to their friends, and her nieces and nephews. We thank her for all her words of comfort and wisdom.

She will be missed but those she left behind are comforted by the fact that she lived the life she wanted to live. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Daniel & Joseph, her niece Sheila, as well as her mother Rose. Besides being survived by her two children, she is survived by her nephew Daniel of Oregon and three nieces in Nevada.

Services will be held in the spring.
