Gemma Castro, 87, passed away peacefully at her home on May 16th surrounded by
her children, family and friends. She was born August 11,1936 in Gilroy to Leo and
Evelyn Paganucci. She attended Brownell School and is a graduate of Gilroy High
School, Class of 1954.

She married her true love, Edward Castro, on February 8, 1959, celebrating 40 years of
marriage together before his passing in June of 1999.

Gemma began her career in finance as a teller for Wells Fargo Bank in Gilroy and
continued to work in the banking industry for the next 25 years for Northern California
Savings and Loan, Great Western Savings and Washington Mutual before retiring to
enjoy the next chapter of her life.

Gemma loved to travel and was always ready for that next adventure. She was
fortunate to explore many countries and states with different family members and
friends. Whether it was traveling, planning a family reunion, a Bagna càuda dinner, or
preparing for the annual Castro Family Christmas dinner, she always brought an
abundance of energy and laughter to any celebration. On many occasions she could be
found playing Pedro late into the evenings with her husband, and in-laws, Jim and Mary
Duncan. There was never a shortage of laughter or heckling around that table.

Gemma was an active member of St. Mary Parish and the Italian Catholic Federation
(ICF). She enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing bingo and traveling to Chukchansi with
her sister-in-law Mary. She and Eddie hosted Sunday night family gatherings which
became a weekly treat for everyone. Children, grandchildren, family members, and
friends all cherished and welcomed these special moments.

She is survived by her three children, Lori Parshall (Steve), Lisa Weiby (Tom)
and Jeff Castro (Marie); her six grandchildren, Tim Parshall (Theresa), Rebecca
Parshall, Sarah Weiby, Michelle Weiby, Alyssa Castro, Justin Castro and many nieces
and nephews that held special places in her heart. She is preceded in death by her
husband, Edward Castro, her parents, Leo and Evelyn Paganucci, her sister and
brother-in-law, Leola and Tom Burns.

Our family would like to thank her longtime caregiver, companion and friend, Stephanie
Reed, who was by her side for the last seven years. Her positive outlook, love,
patience, and friendship will never be forgotten and she will forever be a part of our
family.
