IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gary Harold
Steinmetz
September 30, 1939 – December 25, 2023
Gary Harold Steinmetz was born on September 30, 1939 to Lucille and Harold Steinmetz of Gilroy CA. He was the grandson of Joseph P. Steinmetz, the founder of J.P. Steinmetz Cigar Store and Pool Hall, which was the meeting place for men and boys of Gilroy for nearly half a century.
Like his grandfather, Gary owned many successful businesses over the years. One of them, California Music & Video, which also became the gathering place for many.
In 2000, Gary, his wife Susan, and their son Joe, moved to Coarsegold, CA. Here he owned and operated Rust Bros. Antiques. He had a knack for making money and loved to find the perfect deal. In recent years, he loved a good yard sale, and always came home with "treasures"!
Gary will be remembered for his great sense of humor and kind heart. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it, and go out of his way to help someone in need. It was second nature for him to give everyone a hilarious nickname, and if you had one you knew he liked you!
Gary is survived by his wife of 43 years, Susan Steinmetz, his children, who he loved with all of his heart, Jill Steinmetz, Jayne Steinmetz, Thom Steinmetz (Carla), Tym Steinmetz and Joe Steinmetz, his beloved grandchildren, Justin Elliott, Josh Elliott, and Olivia Steinmetz, nephew Joe Steinmetz and many cousins.
Gary is proceeded in death by his parents, Harold and Lucille Steinmetz and his brother, James Steinmetz.
Please join us for a celebration of Gary's life on Saturday February 10th at 12:00 pm at the Veterans Building on Sixth St in Gilroy.
"Gone are the days we used to share, But in our hearts you are always there. The gates of memory will never close. We miss you more than anyone knows. With tender love and deep regret, We who love you will never forget."
