Fred O. Wood passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014 at St. Louise Hospital, Gilroy after a short illness. Husband of the late Virginia Wood. Father of Alonda Wood Lautenschlager (Brent) of Nashville, TN,
Andrea Habing (Jim) of Gilroy and Angela Wood of Gilroy. Grandfather of Nathan Lautenschlager of Nashville, TN, Alyssa Habing of San Francisco, CA Andrew Habing of Gilroy, CA, Natalie Kretz Rodrigues (Ryan) of Hollister, CA and Bryan Kretz of McKinley, CA. Great-Grandfather of Cash and Zephyr of Hollister. Brother of Della Knapp of Elko, NV. Proceeded in death by 6 siblings.
Born in Ogden, Utah; raised in Elko, Nevada.
Navy Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Assistant City Manager of Santa Clara before moving to Gilroy in 1963 to become City Administrator until his retirement.
Lifetime member of Gilroy Elks and Chamber of Commerce. Past member of Gilroy Kiwanis.
Past volunteer of South Valley Community Theatre, United Way, Gilroy Garlic Festival, Bonanza Days and the Vagabums RV group.
Funeral Services Friday, October 17, 2014 – 3:00 PM at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.
Entombment will follow at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park, Gilroy. A reception will follow.
Family would appreciate donations to the Gilroy Foundation.
