On February 3, 2017, Francisco ("Frank") Machado Barros returned from his time on earth to join his wife, family, and friends into his fullness in heaven. Born on March 29, 1928 in Biscoitos on the island of São Jorge, Açores, Portugal as the youngest of eight children to Rosa Augusta Dias and José Machado Barros, Francisco became a subsistence farmer and cheesemaker and married Teresa Reis in 1957. He emigrated to Montbrison, France as a guest worker in 1966 until he could afford to bring his wife and two young daughters to join him a year later. Again, in 1969, he immigrated to the United States under the family reunification rider to the Azorean Refugee Act and settled in the Bay Area where his father had once worked as a shepherd boy. Frank soon started working at Santa Clara University as a painter, where he remained for 25 years, and from where his daughters would eventually graduate. Francisco is survived by his eldest daughter, Maria do Carmo ("Carmen") Barros Silva, her husband Roger, Frank's grandsons António (Rachelle) and Manuel (Vanessa), and his great granddaughter Avery Celeste of Gilroy, California. In Boise, Idaho, he is survived by his youngest daughter, Maria dos Anjos ("Mary") Barros-Bailey, her husband Bob, and their daughters Teresa and Rachel. Frank's legacy lives on through his descendants, extended family, network of friends, and others he touched whom we may or may not know particularly through his membership in various Portuguese organizations. Services on February 11 (Saturday) start with viewing at Habing Family Funeral Home (129 4
