Obituary

Fidel Fabian Santiago, a ranch foreman and lifelong resident of Gilroy passed away peacefully at his residence on Oct 2 nd , 2021 surrounded by family at the admirable age of 101.

He was born in Oaxaca, Mexico and came to the United Sates at the young age of 24. He worked for 67 years with Glen Loma Ranch in Gilroy. He was a special contributor to the well-known Garlic festival of Gilroy. He played an important role in helping erect the cover of gourmet alley.  Fidel was an honest and devoted father, an avid plant and flower enthusiast. His favorite hobbies were gardening, photography and woodworking. He also enjoyed the outdoors and being with his family.

Fidel is survived by his children: Elisa Borman-Rubio, Josephine Rubio, Belen Perez, Fidel Jr Santiago, Tony Santiago, Bernadine Tucker, Jesse Santiago, Adela Zarate, and Dolores Gonzales, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Pedro Santiago and Encarnacion Fabian, his daughter Marylouise Martinez and his Son Peter Santiago.

His viewing will be held on Monday, October 11 th 2021 at 5:30p.m. with a Vigil service at 7:00p.m. both at Habing Family Funeral Home, 129 Fourth St., Gilroy. Funeral Mass will be October 12 th 2021 starting at Habing Family Funeral Home at 9:00a.m., proceeding to St. Mary Church in Gilroy at 10:00a.m. followed by burial at St Mary Cemetery in Gilroy for final resting place.
