Obituary

Evelyn Marie Jeske was born on July 19, 1934, in Croswell, Michigan and peacefully passed away at 87 years of age on April 4, 2022, at her home in Merced, California surrounded by her loving family. Evelyn or Evie as she was known, was born to Robert and Agnes Doyle and was the twelfth out of sixteen siblings. She lived in Michigan until meeting the love of her life, John (Jack) Jeske. Theirs was a whirlwind romance where they met on a Tuesday at the local roller rink and were married that Thursday. The next day Jack left for Long Beach where he was stationed in the United States Navy. Evie soon followed behind on the train which was her first time out of Michigan. Their first married years were spent in Long Beach until Jack finished his time in the Navy, and they returned to Port Huron, Michigan. They eventually moved to Gilroy, California where they spent many years before finally settling in Merced.

During their 66 years of marriage, Jack and Evie raised four children, Dale (wife Ruby), Terry (wife Marlene), Vickie (husband Stan), and Jill (husband Kevin). They were the proud grandparents of 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way) and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Throughout her life, Evie was constantly helping those around her. Whether it was her various jobs in waitressing, catering, or cooking, or taking care of her family, doing for others brought her so much joy. She took great pride in cleaning and maintaining her home and enjoyed doing laundry, especially ironing. If it could be ironed, it was. She would often cook and clean for those in her family and once they had children of their own, she loved helping them. Many Sundays were spent around the dining room table with a meal that she had prepared for anyone that happened to be at her home. Evie truly had a servant's heart.

Jack and Evie were always excited to have the chance to travel back to Michigan to visit family as well as the trips they were able to take with Dick (Jack's brother) and his wife, Janet throughout the years. They spent time bowling and were part of a CB club. She enjoyed many afternoons and evenings at various sports events and activities where she faithfully watched her grandchildren.  Evie was a proud grandma and loved to talk about everyone's accomplishments and what was going on in their lives and especially show off their latest photos.

No one was a stranger to Evie, and everyone was family. She was a friend to all who knew her and an adopted grandma to many. She cared immensely for each person in her life and her home was always open. Evie will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandma. She has shown her family the true meaning of unconditional love.
