Evelyn Codiga, a gracious mother, a pillar of faith and generosity, departed this world on January 8, 2024, at the age of 95. She was born in Gilroy, CA, to Domingo Dedini and Mary Jane Dorland on April 1, 1928.
She went to St. Mary's School in Gilroy and attended Gilroy High School. She remained a St. Mary's parishioner her entire 95 years.
She married the love of her life Wesley Louis Codiga in 1948, a marriage that lasted nearly fifty years until Louis's death in 1997. They made their home in Gilroy, California, where they were blessed with 8 children.
Evelyn was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary's Parish her entire life worshipping with three generations of her family. She never missed Sunday Masses and was a daily worshipper. She served the Catholic Ladies Aid Society from age 18 to 95. Her other volunteering and ministries for decades included Parish Religious Gift Store, Layettes for St. Joseph Center, Communion Ministry to the Homebound, cleaning of altar linens, and other outreach programs. She had a heart of gold and was always ready to help, lend a listening ear, and say a prayer.
Evelyn was an avid sports fan and followed the Giants, 49ers, and Warriors. She supported her kids in their sports. Her hobbies included cooking, gardening, and visiting places with her best friends Joseph and Mary Silva.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Louis and son, David. She is survived by her children: Michael, Linda, Mark, Timothy, Paul, Teresa Grossi (Larry), and Robert. Her grandsons: Anthony, Nicholas and Matthew, her great-granddaughter, Aubrie and her only brother Domingo Dedini.
As per her wishes, a private funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's in Gilroy on January 16th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph Center or to St. Mary's Church in Gilroy.
