Obituary

Ernesto "Bob" Lara, beloved husband, father, and papa passed away after a short illness on June 28, 2020. He was 70.

Bob was born on September 22, 1949, in Piedras Negras, Mexico, to Nicolas and Herminia Lara. As a child, he was raised in Crystal City, Texas, before moving to Gilroy, CA, with his father, mother, and five siblings. He graduated from Gilroy High School and received a degree in computer systems administration. He met and married the love of his life, Lorina, in 1974. They had three children: Ernie, Bobby, and Reina. After college, he had many different careers, from auto body technician, insurance adjustor, to business owner. Even in his retirement years, he refused to relax and continued to work as long as he could.

Bob was known for his gregariousness, laughter, and sense of humor. If he teased you, you knew he loved you. Although he was known for his light-hearted side, he was also insightful. He was knowledgeable about many topics but was always willing to learn and listen to others' views. One area where he would not budge in his feelings was for his beloved Dallas Cowboys. A small part of Texas remained with him and you could see that in his love for his Texas team. There were many spirited debates in the Lara household during football season. Another area of his unwavering devotion was his family. His wife, children, and grandchildren brought him joy and laughter and their love for each other was undeniable.

It is with heavy hearts that we say our goodbyes to a man who touched so many lives and lived a colorful life himself. He leaves his wife of 45 years, Lorina (née Lerma); two sons, Ernie Lara and Bobby (Melinda) Lara; one daughter, Reina (Nick) Lara; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his brother Modesto "Ray" Lara; sisters Viola (Louie) Alcala and Edna Lara. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicolas and Herminia Lara; and brothers Oscar Lara and Nick Lara, Jr.

The family hopes to have a celebration of life at a later date.
