Obituary

Elinor was born August 30, 1930 in Racine, Wisconsin to Otto and Gertrude Kurringer. Her family moved to Waukegan, IL, where Elinor attended Waukegan Township High School and Lake Forest College. She worked at Abbott Laboratories as a Secretary to the Medical Director, where she met her husband Bill. Elinor and Bill married in 1961, and moved to Gilroy with their two sons in 1972.

Elinor loved her family. A devoted mother, she supported her sons through school, swim team, Boy Scouts, college and adulthood. A devoted wife, she supported Bill in his career, in raising their sons, and in supporting organizations in which the family was involved. She blossomed as an Oma (grandmother) and doted on her four grandchildren. A kind mother-in-law, she was loved by her daughters-in-law.

Elinor loved people and made friends with every one she met. She had a passion for cooking and baking. She prepared elaborate holiday feasts and at Christmas she would bake hundreds of cookies and give them to all her friends. Elinor fell in love with the Garlic Festival. She first worked as a volunteer during the second annual Festival, and for every Festival since, up to 2015.

Later in life she and Bill enjoyed travel to Europe, where Elinor re-connected with German relatives. She and Bill also took several motorhome trips in the American West, and were active members of the Gilroy Vagabums RV club.

Elinor suffered from Alzheimer's disease and was cared for by her husband until the final months of her life.

She is survived by her husband, Bill, of 56 years; Two sons Jeff (Kathi) of Vacaville, CA and Kurt (Sharon) of Morgan Hill, CA; Four grandchildren Wyatt, Weston, Alex and Finn Workman; A sister Helen Emmerich of Evergreen CO., and a brother-in-law Lawrence Workman of Jonestown, PA.

She was deeply loved, and will be remembered always.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Gilroy. Family and Friends are invited to a reception immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to Live Oak Adult Services of Gilroy, CA, or to your favorite charity.
