She was very proud of her Irish heritage and her mother, Hannah, emigrated to the United States in 1915 from County Kerry in Ireland. Eileen graduated from Cathedral High School (St. Patrick's Cathedral School) in 1944 and worked as a secretary until her marriage to Jim. Eileen met her husband at a Christmas party in the Chrysler Building in Manhattan in December 1946 and they were married a year later on December 27, 1947. In 1955 a job opportunity for Eileen's husband moved them to western New York where they would remain until 2015. Eileen was a devoted housewife and mother. She also loved to help others and spent many years volunteering her time. One was at the VA Hospital in Buffalo, NY where she would read to the veterans and visit those who did not have any family. Additionally, Eileen spent over 30 years as a lead volunteer on Wednesdays with the Call 4 Action group at WIVB Channel 4 in Buffalo, NY. Eileen was a painter, knitter and also loved working in her gardens and enjoyed the many compliments she would receive from her neighbors passing by.
After retirement, Eileen and Jim enjoyed many years of travel and visited several countries in Europe (including two trips to Ireland) and Asia in addition to numerous cruises. They were also the typical "snow birds" and spent the winter months at a condo in Fort Myers Beach, Florida for many years. As the years went by, Eileen and Jim made the decision to move to Gilroy, CA in 2015 to be closer to their daughter.
