IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edward Vernon
Zimbrick
October 5, 1939 – March 21, 2019
Edward Vernon Zimbrick was born on October 5, 1939 to Frank and Ruth Hopper Zimbrick in Portland Oregon and he passed away on March 21, 2019 in Gilroy, CA. He was the first born son in his family followed by two brothers and a sister. Ed completed his primary and secondary schooling in Beaverton, Oregon. Ed began to play the trombone while still in high school and it became a driving force in his life thereafter. He went on to attend University of Portland where he received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry, as well as his masters and doctorate. Ed met his first wife, Rosita, while still in college. They were married in Portland and had their daughter, Edessa, there.
The family then moved to southern California where Ed went on to pursue a career in music. He began to tour with a band and appeared in many venues throughout the western US. As the life in the music business began to pall, he developed an interest in real estate which lead to the family moving to the Bay Area.
Ed received his broker's license in 1977 and thereafter began the business that would sustain his professional career. Century 21 Alpha would grow to encompass several offices with Ed nurturing many a new licensee to great success thereafter. Ed's name was associated with honesty, integrity and brilliance in guiding agents to closings.
Simultaneously, while managing his growing brokerage, he founded a Dixieland Jazz Band, 10 th Avenue Band. The band generated an international following and Ed's travel became a constant in his life. Ed continued to write and perform music up to very near the end of his life.
Another passion of Ed's life was his ability to create beauty from a patch of bare earth. All of his gardens throughout his life were self- created and self- maintained. They rivaled English manor's in their scope and creativity.
Ed lost Rosita in December of 1996. He later married Daija Avery in September of 2000. This marriage created a lot of happiness for both of them to the end of Ed's life. Ed and Daija added to their family in 2007 with their son Sergio. The completion of their family with the addition of Sergio also yielded great happiness.
Ed is survived by his loving wife Daija, his daughter Edessa and grandson Johnny, and his son Sergio. He is further survived by his brother, Bob, and sister Virginia. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife and his brother, David.
