Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Edward Conrad Vogel, Sr., who left us peacefully on June 27, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on June 22, 1940, in San Diego, California, Edward was the cherished son of William J. Vogel and Ida Vogel.

In 1941, Edward moved with his family to Gilroy, California, where he would build a lifelong home. Growing up in the close-knit farming community, he embraced the values of perseverance, craftsmanship, and neighborly spirit. He developed a passion for machinery, eventually becoming a skilled and respected tractor mechanic.

At the age of 22, Edward married the love of his life, Joanne Lee Cornejo, on October 14, 1962. Together they raised a family and built a life rooted in devotion and shared traditions.

Later, Edward dedicated himself to public service through his work for the County of Santa Clara, where he remained until he retired. His steady presence, sharp hands, and generous heart earned him lasting respect among coworkers and neighbors.

Affectionately known as "Ed," he was a familiar and beloved figure throughout Gilroy. Whether lending a hand, sharing stories from the old days, or offering a warm smile, Ed embodied the spirit of community. He lived with humility, quiet strength, and unwavering loyalty.

Edward was the last surviving brother among his siblings, preceded in death by Joe, Werner, Bill, and Albert. He is lovingly remembered by his three sisters: Ida, Julia, and Elizabeth.

Outside of work and family, Ed found joy in the outdoors. He had a lifelong passion for fishing, hunting, motorsports, and camping with family and friends—activities that connected him to nature and to the people he loved most.

He is survived by his son, Edward Conrad Vogel, Jr.; and his grandchildren: Dylan Vogel, Dustin Vogel, Danika Vogel, Zachary Lopez, Shawn Vogel, and Danny Vogel. He was also preceded in death by his son, Gary John Vogel, whose memory Edward held close to his heart.

A private memorial is not planned at this time, as the family has chosen to honor Edward's life in their own personal ways. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in his memory—simple gestures that reflect the man he was.

Though he may be gone from our sight, he will never be gone from our hearts. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the land he loved and the lives he shaped so deeply.
