Edith Georgina Filice passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 9th, 2010. She was 76-years-old.
Edith Caputo was born on February 21, 1933, in Hollister, CA. In 1950, while still in school at San Benito High, she met the love of her life, Gennero Filice. They were married in November of 1951. Less than a year later they opened a grocery store in Morgan Hill. In April of 1953, Edith gave birth to her first son, Steve. Frank, her second son, was born in May, 1955, and Larry followed just 11 months later in April 1956. In 1961, Edith and Gennero sold the grocery store to start farming. They built their farm around their home in Gilroy, and moved in in 1963. Edith was an impeccable bookkeeper and a great partner in the family business. As the business and their sons grew, Edith and Gennero were able to travel to places including Hawaii, Panama, Costa Rica, Peru, and Alaska. Edith had an eye for design and a passion for jewelry, a creative talent she passed on to her grandchildren. She was a shrewd business-woman with a strong attention to detail, another trait she bestowed to her family. Her unconditional love and pride for her Italian family was evident to all who knew her and the stories she would tell.
Edith was a tenacious woman with an unparalleled dedication to her family. She is survived by her husband, Gennero Filice; her sons and daughters-in-law, Steve Filice, Frank Filice and Marilyn Schlagel, and Larry and Lauren Filice; her grandchildren and grandchildren-in-law Stephanie Filice, Marco and Monica Filice, Patrick and Sang Filice, Allison Filice, Gennero Filice, Adrian Filice, and Mario Filice; and her great-grandchildren, Pete and Sonya Filice. She was preceded in death by her parents Angelina and Santo Caputo, and her sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Joe Accanero.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Edith Filice will be missed tremendously by all who were blessed to have had her in their lives.
Her family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Cooley's Anemia Foundation or the Italian Catholic Federation.
