IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy
Mariscal
October 16, 1957 – July 16, 2025
Dorothy Ann Mariscal, born at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away after a 10 year long, courageous battle with cancer. She faced every challenge with grace, honor, and unwavering faith, never letting go of her love for God or her family.
Born on October 16, 1957, Dorothy devoted her life to serving others. As a pastor's wife, she stood faithfully alongside her husband, Moses Mariscal, in ministry for many years, offering encouragement, compassion, and genuine care to all who walked through their church doors and entered their home. She lovingly homeschooled her children and poured her heart into raising a family rooted in faith, love, and purpose. Her greatest joys came from serving God, nurturing her family, and being a source of light and support to her church community.
Once her children were grown and in college, Dorothy became a campus supervisor at Solorsano Middle School, where she served for over ten years. She truly loved that job! The students brought her joy, and she built deep and lasting friendships with coworkers. Even after cancer forced her to step away, she continued to talk about her time there with warmth and gratitude for years. It remained one of the most fulfilling roles of her life.
Dorothy also had a lifelong love for learning. She often took online classes, proudly practiced Spanish on her phone, and was always interested in learning something new. She had a love of writing, and her heartfelt letters to friends and family were a cherished reflection of her care, thoughtfulness, and ability to connect deeply with others.
Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Moses Mariscal; her children, Mark Mariscal (wife Leanne) and Rachel Prater (husband Brandon); and her cherished granddaughter, Sophia Prater. She deeply loved her son-in-law Brandon and daughter-in-law Leanne and found tremendous joy in her role as "Ama" to Sophia. Her love for her family was boundless and constant.
Dorothy also delighted in the simple beauty of life. She loved being outside in the warm sun, tending her garden, taking walks, and the beach. She had a heart full of music and loved to sing, often sharing her testimony with the doctors, nurses and anyone willing to listen. She had a great sense of humor and could bring laughter to even the heaviest moments, uplifting those around her with joy and wit. Her words and her life reflected a deep and abiding faith that touched and inspired all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Beatrice Vallejos, her father Trinidad Vallejos, sister, Rosemarie Mata; and her brother, Albert Vallejos.
Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of strength, faith, and unconditional love. She was an inspiration to many, and though our hearts ache, we rejoice knowing she is now at peace in the presence of the Lord she served so faithfully. Her light will continue to shine through the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7
