Doris Ann Cockayne, 80, of Gilroy, CA died peacefully in her home on Friday, July 10, 2015. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Richard Cockayne, her parents, Eliza (LeBlanc) and Leo Blais, and her sister, Janet Blais.
Doris was born in born in Pawtucket, R.I. on January 23, 1935. She spent most of her life in Pawtucket, R.I. where she met her loving husband, Donald, and helped raise their children, Debbie (Gilroy, CA) and Timothy (Shelburne, VT). In 2001, Doris and Donald retired to San Jose and Gilroy, CA.
When Doris was younger she was very active in the community with dance recitals, Cub Scout den mother, Little League fundraisers and various youth sports. She was happiest in the company of her family, grandchildren, family pets (dogs and cats) and friends. Doris was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and the beach, consumed everything about current events, loved arts/crafts/painting and was a huge baseball and golf fan.
Doris will be remembered as a loving wife, generous friend, and a wonderful mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. Her great sense of humor, quiet presence, and keen story telling ability will be greatly missed.
Doris' spirit lives on in the lives of her daughter, Debbie, son-in-law, Leonard Smith; son, Timothy, daughter-in-law, Karen Schumacher and grandchildren, Matthew, Elliot and Peter.
A celebration of her life was held Sunday, July 12th at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy, CA.
