IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Domingo Martinez
Perales
January 25, 1942 – May 15, 2017
Domingo (Sunday) Martinez Perales was born on January 25, 1942 in Phoenix, Arizona to Roberto and Refugia Perales. He was the 6th of nine children. His father passed away when he was 14 years old. Domingo's parents moved the family to central California because they were migrant workers. He went to Tranquility High School but never graduated.
Domingo married his sweetheart Guadalupe (Lupe) Rodriquez on November 9, 1959 and had 3 children: Dora, Ralph and Stella. Domingo and Lupe were migrant workers and lived in 3 Rocks, CA. Domingo was a hardworking man and they wanted a better life so in 1969 they moved to Gilroy, CA.
Domingo started working for an RV business in Morgan Hill and moved his family to a duplex on Rosanna Street. They saved money and purchased their first home in 1971 at 761 Welburn Avenue where he resided for 47 years up to his death. Domingo wanted a better job so he enrolled in CET and was trained as a carpenter. He eventually was hired by PG&E as a carpenter in their construction division. PG&E quickly realized that he was very talented and could do any task they asked of him. He traveled up and down the California coast to work at every PG&E plant. He was assigned to work and live in Pismo Beach for one year. He eventually worked in the safety division where he trained new employees in safety. He retired from PG&E in 1993 after 19 years.
Domingo loved all genres of music. He purchased his first guitar at the age of 16 from a pawn shop. This was the first of many. He learned to play the guitar and loved to sing. Domingo also learned to play the drums, piano and accordion. He would have his children sing and play instruments for the family at home. Dora sang, Ralph played the drums and Stella would play the tambourine and later learned to play the drums. This talent has been passed to his grandson Mathew who as child would always have grandpa play the guitar for and eventually with him. Domingo played in many bands as the drummer. Any time he was where a live local band was playing Domingo would end up joining them. He enjoyed playing the guitar to anyone who would listen.
Domingo traveled the world after he retired. Most recently he went to Hawaii but he enjoyed being home and taking care of his beautiful garden. He had a green thumb and could grow anything. His mother had a plant that he took care of for over 27 years as and has passed it down to his sister. Domingo also enjoyed doing projects at home. He was a DIYer before it was even popular. Domingo was also an animal lover. Cats would always adopt him. He and his cats were well known in the neighborhood because he would take them for a walk every day with no leash. It sure was a sight to see.
Domingo departed this life on May 15, 2017 at his home with his two daughters present. Domingo will be missed by his family, loved ones and many friends. Domingo is survived by his girlfriend Sandie Headley, his 3 children: Dora Sampedro, Ralph Perales and Stella (Jose) Ceballos.
