IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Debra "Debbie"
Jane Amaro
June 13, 1958 – April 22, 2021
On April 22, 2021, Debra "Debbie" Jane Amaro, age 62, passed away
peacefully at home in Gilroy surrounded by her family after a long battle with
cancer.
Debbie was the oldest of three children born to Mary Ann Harp and David
Farris in Falls Church, Virginia, on June 13, 1958. Debbie moved to California
when she was in second grade and has been a long-time resident of Gilroy
since 1982. Debbie was a Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery at Saint
Louise Hospital, where she helped bring countless babies into the world over
many years. After receiving her Masters Degree in Nursing in 2004, Debbie
became a Nursing Instructor at Gavilan Community College, where she
helped shape the next nursing generation. Debbie was the Director of the
Nursing Program at Gavilan Community College from 2016 to 2018, where
she finished her career. Debbie was a selfless, extraordinary, intelligent, kind-
hearted, loving woman and a true fighter in every sense of the word. It was
these qualities that made her an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mother,
friend, and nurse. Nursing was her dream and career by choice, but her true
passion was her family. For Debbie, family was the most important priority,
and her family always came first. She enjoyed teaching, reading, going on
many adventures with Art, and seeing countless movies. Her Christian Faith
was also very important to her and she was an active part of the Foothills
Church.
Debbie is preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her loving
husband of 36 years, Art Amaro, and their children, Rachel (Cort), Michelle
(Jerry), Jennifer, Renee (Nick), Kathleen, Carrie, and Chris; her grandchildren,
Kali, Liam, Ethan, Jose, Alyssa, Alex, Christhena, Antonio, and soon-to-be,
Landon; along with her siblings, Nancy McDonald and Keith Farris, and
numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family both near and far.
A celebration of life for Debbie is scheduled for May 8, 2021 at The Foothills
Church in Gilroy, located at 8335 Church St., Gilroy, CA 95020. Viewing will
be from 9-10 AM. Services will commence at 10 AM. A short graveside
service will follow the church service. The family asks that donations be sent
to the Breast Cancer Foundation in lieu of flowers.
