David X McCarthy died January 28, 2019 in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii. He was 94 years young.
A native of Berkeley, California, he graduated from Berkeley High School. Great backstroke. Two days later he was drafted into the United States Navy and served in WWII. He married Nancy L Frost. They had three children. Karen Ann, David Michael and Robyn Nicholl.
He left the family title business for Santa Clara County. He became an artificial inseminator for dairy and beef. He was a 4-H leader and consulted for FFA. After 17 years living in San Martin and the Gilroy ranch in 1958, he changed occupations and trained to work at Memorex and Unisis. Later, owning a medical supply business and telephone switchboard.
He and Nancy left Gilroy in 1986 to Boulder Creek, California where they opened a bookstore and partnered in a liquor store. He joined the Optimist Club and became President of Districts of California and Nevada.
In his 60's, he decided he would run marathons, 10ks, and a half marathon even on a broken ankle. Such was his nature. In 2000, he and Nancy moved to Lawaii, Kauai. He always a lover and creator of plant species and volunteered at the National Botanical Gardens.
He is survived by his son, David Michael McCarthy, Tennessee, his two children and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his daughter, Robyn Nicholl McCarthy, Kauai and her son.
Any donations he asked to be made to 4-H or FFA.
On October 16 he will be buried in the Veterans Cemetery on Kauai after a military ceremony.
