Daniel M. Mello

Daniel M. Mello, 87, longtime Gilroy resident, passed away September 16 with his loving wife Linda by his side.

The proud grandson of Portuguese immigrants, Dan was born on January 8, 1939 in French Camp, California.

Dan received his Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering from Fresno State University and his Master of Business Administration Degree from Golden Gate University.

Dan moved with his family to Gilroy in 1974 when he began working for Gentry. In 1981 he received his General Contractor’s license and began building and developing commercial real estate in Gilroy and the surrounding region. A project he was particularly proud of was the Windmill Plaza Shopping Center in San Juan Bautista.

In business, and in every aspect of his life, Dan was an honest man of the highest integrity. His associates knew that his word was his bond. He was not afraid of hard work and taught his daughters that anything was achievable through effort. “Perseverance is the mother of success,” was an often repeated mantra.

Together, with his wife Linda, Dan travelled the globe. He loved to experience the places he visited like a local. He enjoyed learning about the history and culture of the countries he travelled to and digging in to the local cuisine.

Dan and Linda shared a love of cooking and hosting friends and family. Famous for their festive gatherings, any invite felt lucky to be included. Pumpkin carving parties were a favorite annual tradition.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Roseline Mello and his grandson Lucas Freitas.

Dan is survived by his wife, Linda Sargenti Mello, his daughters, Julie Williams (Tom), Angela Freitas (Harry), and Laura Cornett (Joseph) and their mother, Marie Anderson. Dan is also survived by his grandchildren, Olivia, Nate, Sofia, Joaquin and Antonio and his sister Helen Neal.

Dan will be greatly missed!!
