IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dale Eugene
Boomgaarden
April 4, 1942 – January 30, 2022
Dale was the third child born to Jacob and Nettie (Zacharias) Boomgaarden on 4 April 1942 in Walla Walla Washington. He followed older brother Dan and sister Annamarie (both deceased) into their family. He passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at St. Louise Hospital from pneumonia. He married the love of his life, Cheryl Witt, on 13 Jan 1964 in Pasco Washington. They moved to Santa Clara County in April 1964 and remained there for 58 years; first in two different homes in Sunnyvale and then to their current home in Gilroy in 1976. Two daughters were born to that union: Shauna Boomgaarden (Cam) DeBuck (St George Utah) and Shannon Boomgaarden (Tony) Iseminger (Ogden Utah). His grandchildren include Jill, Cameron (Tailor), Jace (Sam), Dane (Maddy) and Jacoby.
Having had an interest in cars from way before he could even drive, Dale worked for several Chrysler dealerships until he became a dealer for Snap-On Tools for 15 years. In 1986, he purchased Gilroy Car Care and retired twice from that business, the latest in 2017. For his enjoyment throughout his life, he owned and loved muscle cars and race cars and most recently drove for the Mallicoat Brothers out of Arizona for ten years until he had to go on kidney dialysis for four years. Our family miracle was a new kidney for Dale in 2012. He was the poster child for that transplant. He continued to enjoy his home "man cave" up until he entered the hospital. Due to the transplant medication, however, his immune system couldn't fight off this last infection.
Dale was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served in various callings over the years. He especially enjoyed his service with Cheryl on Sundays in the nursery as well as serving with Cheryl as temple workers in the Oakland California temple.
He had a full FUN life and we are grateful for the extra ten years we had him with us. We love him and will miss his enthusiastically told stories filled with laughter.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 7999 Miller Ave., Gilroy, CA. The viewing begins at 9AM with the funeral directly following at 10AM in the chapel. Friends and family are invited to stay and share stories of race cars, hot rods and everything Dale enjoyed in the cultural hall of the church building. Interment will be at 1PM that same day at the Gilroy City Cemetery on First Street. Out of town friends and family are welcome to continue the visiting and remembrances at the Boomgaarden home after that.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Wounded Warriors Fund, LDS Humanitarian Fund, or Tunnels to Towers Fund. Dale would have like to see all of those funds helped.
