November 20, 1920 – December 24, 2019
Daisy Casalegno passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her children, on December 24, 2019. She enjoyed 99 years of life. Her generous spirit, strength of character, faith in God, and loving devotion to her family will always be remembered.
She was the daughter of the late Alibrando and Nanda Massei. She was preceded in death by her sisters Josephine Muccia, Anne Lund, Mamie Massei, her husband Bert, and her son Paul and daughter-in-law Mary.
Born in Atwater, California, she graduated from Notre Dame High School in San Jose, and San Jose State University. She was enrolled in the School of Nursing at O'Connor Hospital in San Jose and graduated as a Registered Nurse. She served as a commissioned officer in the United States Naval Nurses Corps during World War II. She was a member of the American Legion Post 217.
She served as a volunteer nurse for St. Mary's school, she was a member of the Catholic Ladies Aid Society and served as president of the St. Mary's Guild. She was a public school nurse in the Gilroy Unified School District until her retirement in 1982 in which she became a member of the California Teacher's Retirement Association.
She is survived by her son John (Debbie) of Montana, her daughter Jean of California; seven grandchildren Mark (Rachel) and Amy (Hank) of Montana, Sarah (Marc), Adam (Jennifer), Patrick, Steven, Jon (Sarah) of Oregon; eight great-grandchildren Kayla, Cade, Kathryn of Montana; Madison, Ryland, Jaxon, Ben, Addie of Oregon.
Memorial Mass will be held Sunday, August 1, 2021 - 10:00 AM in Our Lady's Chapel, St. Mary Church, Gilroy.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bonita Springs Hospice Care of Gilroy and the St. Mary's School Science Lab.
