IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles (Chuck)
William Quade
December 27, 1930 – March 10, 2023
Charles William Quade, age 92, passed away peacefully on March 10th in Gilroy, CA. He was born in Lapeer, Michigan to parents Ernest and Dora, where he came from humble beginnings as the eldest of three siblings (Velda, Junior, Darrell "Jack"). While he worked hard to make a better life for his family, he never stopped being a country boy. He enlisted in the Army as a young man and met his future wife, Susan (Sumiko) in Tokyo, Japan. He learned to read and write Japanese in the Army's Foreign Language School in Monterey. During his 21 years of service, he was stationed in Japan, Korea, Texas, California, Maryland, Virginia and Hawaii. He ended his Army Intelligence career as a Master Sergeant, and decided to settle down in California with his family. He then started a second 21-year career in the USPS in San Jose, and finally retired as Postmaster of San Juan Bautista.
Chuck was an avid bowler and ocean fisherman. His wife was surprised more than once when she came back from a trip to find a bigger boat parked in their side yard. He and his wife enjoyed going on motorhome adventures across the US to their favorite spots: Florida, Branson, MO, Yellowstone, and many places in-between. This aligned perfectly with his affinity for maps, and he made sure the grandkids knew how to navigate while on the road. He loved to tend to his garden in Morgan Hill and always made sure the hummingbirds had plenty of fresh sugar water. He often provided fresh-picked fruits and vegetables to share with family and friends, and it was a joy to see his zest for a good meal.
Chuck was a steadfast, patriotic man with a strong moral compass. He never complained about anything, even when his wife would turn off the news during his midday recliner naps. Though he was a man of few words, he showed his love through his actions and was somebody our family could always count on. He was strong yet patient and kind, and did everything he could for his family.
Chuck's proudest achievement was his 70-year marriage to the love of his life, and his family. He leaves behind his dear wife, Susan; their four children and spouses: Vera (Randy), Art (Yvonne), Tom (Theresa), Nora (Peter); their grandchildren: Rachel, Ashley, Scot, Damien, Ben, Victoria, Ivy, Amanda, Julia, Cheyenne; and great-grandchildren: Phoenix, Max, Hunter, and Hudson.
His private burial will be held on May 6 th . Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital
