Cathy Ann McNutt

July 15, 1953 — April 6, 2026

Cathy Ann McNutt passed away unexpectedly on April 6, 2026, after a brief illness.

She was born on July 15, 1953, in Vallejo, California, to Percy Hayes McNutt and Theodora Mabel DeForest McNutt. Cathy grew up in Menlo Park with her older brother, Bruce, and younger brother, Scott. She graduated from Menlo-Atherton High School in 1971 and from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a B.A. in History.

Cathy became a Certified Nursing Assistant and spent most of her life caring for others. A loving and compassionate person, she dearly loved working with the elderly and cared for her mother for many years. In the early days of the internet, she also worked for the Gale Group, indexing articles and scientific studies for publication on the web.

Throughout her life, Cathy was an avid Beatles fan and attended all three of their concerts in the San Francisco Bay Area: two at the Cow Palace and one at Candlestick Park. She read voraciously, was a whiz at trivia, and could carry on a conversation with anyone on just about any subject. She had a great sense of humor and many friends. She loved cats and was devoted to caring for the community’s feral cat population.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents and by her longtime partner, Mike Rock. She is survived by her brothers, Bruce (Kathy) and Scott (Lee); her two nieces, Gena and Diana; her uncle, David Ross McNutt, and his family; as well as her cousin, Anita Emery, and her family.

Services will be private.

If you would like to remember Cathy, please consider making a donation in her memory to Town Cats of Morgan Hill at towncats.org, the Santa Clara County Animal Shelter at animals.santaclaracounty.gov/home, any veterans organization, or a charity of your choice.
