Carol June Harmon Mekata, 81, of Chowchilla, CA, unexpectedly passed away on July 4, 2022.  Carol was born in Litchfield, IL on June 26, 1941.  She moved to Gardena, CA in 1942 where she attended school and then moved to Chino just before her senior year of high school graduating from Chino High School in 1959.

She gave birth to her daughter Pamela Miller in 1961 and her son David Miller in 1963 in Orange County.  She met her future husband Shig Mekata and then discovered that their parents were next door neighbors in Gilroy, CA.  Carol and Shig moved to Clovis, NM where they married in 1975.  They returned  to Gilroy in 1976, she worked at Gavilan College and then joined Shig working at Goldsmith Seeds and then they retired in 2004.  They enjoyed a beach house in Cayucos for many years with family and friends.  They moved from Gilroy to their home in Chowchilla, CA on a golf course where she worked in the course restaurant and spent years riding in the golf cart with Shig and their dog Mochi.

Carol is survived by her husband Shig, daughter Pam and husband Greg, her granddaughter Hannah, son David, her sister Doris and husband Jim, her niece Kathleen and kids Matthew and Amanda, her nephew Michael and kids Kevin, Christian, Ryan, Michael and Sean as well as many wonderful friends and other extended family.

Carol enjoyed cooking, celebrations with family, trips with friends, being a handy-woman around the house, and spending time with her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter in Southern California.  Carol had a very generous heart, was gracious and loving to all.  She had a laugh that would fill a room and a sense of humor that could handle any joke.  She made any holiday spectacular and grand with unlimited baking treats, traditional family recipes and special gifts.

A private family burial and service will be held July 2022.
