IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carlos Urias
Munoz
October 8, 1948 – August 26, 2019
Carlos Urias Muñoz was born on October 8, 1948 in Montebello, CA to Rosalio and Maria Muñoz. He was the fourth of five children who all grew up in the Los Angeles area. In 1969 he enlisted in the Navy and, after training on Treasure Island, serviced electrical equipment for submarines in Guam. Subsequently, he majored in mathematics at UCLA, where he was also a publisher of the La Gente newspaper. After graduating, Carlos moved to the Bay Area to do quality assurance work for IBM. Some of his work was published in technical journals, including IEEE. In 1975, he married Rosemary Durazzo and soon afterwards they moved to England for a year-long work project. When they returned, they bought a house and set roots in Gilroy where they raised their son, Alejandro.
Carlos loved to garden, play bridge and chess, sing Oklahoma (the musical), wear M.C. Escher-themed ties, attend football games with his son, and drink Coca-Cola. He was also an active member of the Gilroy United Methodist Church for over 30 years.
On Monday, August 26, 2019, after a long illness, he passed away peacefully with his wife of 44 years at his side. He is survived by his wife Rosemary, son Alejandro, and his siblings Maria Wartnik, Ricardo, Rosalio, and Elvira Geoghegan. We will all miss you very much. We love you.
