Brian Giambattista was born in 1958 in New Jersey as the middle of three boys in a loving family. He died on June 23, 2026 from metastatic pancreatic cancer.
In high school he favored subjects such as math and science. He attended college at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT where he majored in physics. It was in Provo where Brian fell in love with the mountains, especially the view from a high peak.
One of the key decisions in Brian’s life was his decision to serve a mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Not only did this experience solidify Brian’s testimony of and belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ, but it also enabled him to develop interpersonal, communication and organizational skills that helped him in the rest of his life.
The highlight of Brian’s undergraduate years was meeting and falling in love with Janet Burks. Fortunately, those feelings were mutual and the two were married for time and all eternity in 1982 in the Washington DC temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
After marriage came a move for Brian to continue his education in physics at the University of Virginia. Janet worked and went through two very challenging pregnancies to bring Eric and Jill into the world. Several years later, our family became complete with the birth of Hannah.
Brian spent his entire career working on flat-panel X-ray detectors, a new technology in the 2000s that is now widely used across the world. He felt satisfaction in not only having a job that supported his family, but also provided benefits to society.
Brian enjoyed all his opportunities for service in the Church.
His biggest hobby was spending time in the mountains with family, friends or by himself, and developing his landscape photography skills which enabled him to share some of God’s beautiful creations with others.
Brian was pre-deceased by his parents and niece Natalie. He is survived by his wife Janet, children Eric (Krista), Jill, Hannah, grandchildren Graham, Grace, Avery, Greer, brothers Dave (Catherine), Alan, and 13 nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday July 11 at 10am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1790 East Dunne Ave, Morgan Hill 95037. Family visitation will be from 8:30-10am.
