Marie Nina Lopes Goncalves Costa
November 30, 1927 – December 26, 2017
Beatrice returned to her Lord peacefully at home on December 26 th , 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in New York to the late Arthur and Maria "Neto" Goncalves and was the sister of the late Arthur J. Goncalves.
The family settled in New Jersey. Beatrice met Manuel V. Costa when he was 12 years old at a Portuguese dance. In 1947 they were married and moved to California with their families. The family business, "Neto Sausage Company Inc." was started in 1948. They produced the best Linguicia in these United States. The family business is now in its 4 th generation. Along with being the cofounder of "Neto Sausage", Beatrice worked the front counter at the deli where she loved talking to the customers.
Together Beatrice and Manuel raised three children, Susan Romano (Everist), Edward Costa (Deborah) and Mary Harp (John). She was the proud grandmother of 7 grandchildren: Nanette (Joe), Janine (Victor), Jason (Kim) Lauren (Brandon), Jessica (Tyler) Cassandra (Christopher) and Eddie. She was also proud to have 13 great grandchildren: Sabrina, Alexandria, Miranda, Susie, Jared, Lilly, Dakota, Aurora, Gunnar, Charlotte, Dixie, Lucas & Lehua. Her family meant the world to her and she was always available to help them. Beatrice will also be missed by niece Clairette Wilson (Ken), nephew Eno Clementino (Janice), cousins, god children and many friends. She will forever be in our hearts.
She was very active in the City of Santa Clara. She was a member of St. Clare's Y.L.I. #119 for 68 years and a life time member of the Soroptimist Club of Santa Clara. She was also a former member of the Cabrillo Club, UPEC, Woman's Club of Santa Clara, ABWA and Sister Cities of Santa Clara. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Clare's Catholic Church for many years. For 15 years she enjoyed teaching Catechism to 4 th grade boys from Fremont Elementary School in Santa Clara for St. Clare's Parish.
Visitation begins at 10:00am and Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am on Friday, January 12 th , 2018 at the Carmelite Monastery, 1000 Lincoln Street, Santa Clara, CA. Burial will be held at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery.
Donations to the Alzheimer's Activity Center: 2380 Enborg Lane, San Jose, CA 95128 or the Diabetes Association of Santa Clara Valley: 1165 Lincoln Avenue, San Jose, CA 95125 would be preferred.
