Obituary

Barbara Beckwith Brown passed away on September 24, 2017. Her children Patricia Eddy and Ryan Brown and her husband Gilbert T Brown were present during her final moments.

Barbara was born on August 28, 1942 to Harold and Lorraine Beckwith in New Jersey.  Her brother, Hal Jr., was born in 1945. Her dad was a chemical engineer who encouraged her to accomplish anything she set her mind on. And she set her mind on a lot of things.  She lived a full life and recently celebrated her 75 th birthday with all her children and grandchildren.

In her youth, Barbara was a Brownie, a Mariner Girl Scout and was the first female to receive the Bausch-Lomb award for science at Kankakee Junior High. She attended Denison University in Ohio in 1960 where she pledged Delta Gamma. (She was very proud to attend her granddaughter, Cori Paine's initiation to DG at Purdue University in 2014.) Ultimately, she moved to Huntington Beach, California. While raising her 2 children, she worked as a medical technician at Long Beach Memorial Hospital and also worked on her masters in microbiology. She met her present husband, Gil, in 1978. They were married in 1980 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Huntington Beach, California. Inasmuch as Gil was an attorney, Barbara decided to go to law school and obtained her JD in 1984.

Horses were a fundamental part of her life. She introduced both Ryan and Patricia to horses. She was very proud of both of them because they were very accomplished riders. She was elected District Commissioner for San Juan Capistrano Pony Club. After moving to the bay area she was the DC for Portola Valley Pony Club as well. She was fully committed to the United States Pony Club values. She joined Los Altos Hounds in 1990 and proudly received her colors in 1993. Barbara filled many leadership positions in that organization. Barbara's favorite two horses were her Welsh Cob, "Margo" and Rocky Mountain horse, "Maggie Mae". She touched many souls as an entrepreneur with her many small businesses.

Barbara (Bobbi) was the proud grandmother of 5: From Patricia: Sydney Paine (24) graduated from SMU and now works in San Francisco , Cori Paine (22) just graduated from Purdue University, Hudson Paine (20) is attending Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. From Ryan: Riley Brown (11) 6 th grade and Mackenzie Brown (8) 3rd grade.

A private celebration of her life has been held. Any donations should go to the United States Pony Club.
