Gilroy

Barbara Boggs, a devoted community servant, beloved wife, and cherished mother, passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, May 17th. She was 91 years old. Her passing came just two days after she joyfully volunteered at a Gilroy Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony, a final testament to her lifelong passion for community service.

Born on February 5, 1935, in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, Barbara moved with her parents to Washington, D.C., during her childhood. It was there that she completed her education and began her professional journey, working for the United States Treasury Department in the heart of downtown Washington, D.C.

In 1956, Barbara married the love of her life, Erwin Boggs, at a church ceremony in Washington, D.C. Their early years together included a two-year deployment with the United States Army starting in 1959. Following their military service, the couple relocated to California, where they raised their family and built a beautiful life together, living in Salinas and later settling in Gilroy.

The family made Gilroy their permanent home in 1981. Barbara established a successful career in the local banking industry, where her warm smile and sharp mind made her a familiar face to many residents. Beyond her professional work, Barbara’s true calling was her tireless volunteer work. She dedicated decades to uplifting her community, always eager to lend a hand, organize events, and support local organizations.

Barbara's life was defined by her resilience, her unwavering faith in God, and her deep love for her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 70 years, Erwin Boggs, and her loving son, T. Allen Boggs. She was preceded in death by two of her beloved children, Steve and Sherry, with whom she is now peacefully reunited.

A celebration of Barbara's remarkable life will be scheduled in the near future.
