Augustine (Gus) Mendez, 76, passed away at Regional Medical Center, Tuesday April 18, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Cathy Garbini-Mendez, also survived by his son; Marcus Mendez and sister; Monica Mendez. He was preceded in death by his sister; Margaret Mendez.

He was born in Tehachapi, CA to his parents Augustine and Margaret Mendez. He moved with his family to Blue Diamond, NV and then to Las Vegas, where he attended Bishop Gorman High School.
Graduating with the class of 1959. He settled in the San Jose area after he was discharged from the Army and then completed the X-Ray Technologist program at Valley Medical Center. He worked for 47 years in several different hospitals in Santa Clara County area, specializing in the Cardiac Cath department.

Gus was a very special person with a perpetual smile and a willingness to help anyone in need. He had a passion for life and lived it the fullest. He loved to travel, bike and hike and share a glass of wine with friends and family. He enjoyed visiting Europe and made several trips over the years. He took an early semi -retirement in 2000 and spent 10 years traveling in his RV with his wife, Cathy. He enjoyed helping others and volunteered for health fairs, Habitat for Humanity and the annual Turning Wheels for Kids.

He loved spending time with his son and sharing a good meal, usually at his favorite restaurant Original Joes. He was especially proud of his son, Marc's accomplishments and the good man that he had become.
