August Robert (Bob) Gubser passed away the evening of 19 July 2013. August was born May 29, 1923 in Gilroy.
His parents August Michael Gubser and Kathleen Esther Gubser lived on Frazier Lake Road in the "Old" Gilroy area. Bob has a younger sister, Katherine Louise. Bob graduated
from Gilroy High School in 1941.
From 1943 through 1955, Bob farmed with his father, mostly in the Santa Clara Valley.
Bob was married to Faith Ross in 1944 and had 2 children Robert (1945) and Carolyn Joan
(1947). After their divorce 1955, Bob spent over 3 years working for the State of California in
the El Centro and Brawley, CA area.
November 14, 1959 Bob married Winnifred Smith and shortly thereafter Bob adopted Winnie's
son, Ronald Dean (1946). They lived in Novato, California for about 6 years.
With a job change for Bob in 1965, they relocated to Capitola. Bob began a career change, he
became a representative for several food and freezer processors and interfaced with the farmers
for their supply to the processors. He continued with this into the early 2000s. The relationships
and friendships he had in this work were very special to him.
Bob was a member of the Masonic Lodge for many years.
Winnie and Bob always opened their home to their parents, children, grandchildren, nieces and
nephews and their friends to give them summer vacations at the beach. Bob had 6 grandchildren
and now 9 great grandchildren. Winnie and Bob in their second marriage reached that milestone
of 50 years together which lead to a gala get together for the family.
Bob has been preceded in death by his parents, Ronald, Carolyn and Winnie and a granddaughter
Bob will interred in the Gavilan Hills Memorial Park, Gilroy on Saturday October 5th at
2:00 PM.
The family wishes no flowers and please donate to the Cancer Society or an Alzheimer's charity
on his behalf.
