Andres Santiago Real, 4, gained his official superman cape and his guardian angel wings, on Saturday, April 15, 2017.
Andres was the son of Amado Real and Cassandra Soto and brother to Elias Real. He is survived by his Great-Great Grandmother Annie Gracia; Great Grandparents Frank Vallez of Los Banos, Rose Mary "Rosie" Maldonado (Thomas) of Manteca; Grandparents Francisco "Frank" Soto of Hollister, Michelle Alcala (Juan) of Los Banos; Uncles Robert Soto (Brooke) of Hollister and Alexander Soto of Hollister; Cousin Carter; Nurse Martina Cantu of Los Banos; Great Aunts Eudulia "Lula" Ramirez of Gilroy, Maria Del Carmen Soto of Gilroy; Great Uncles Fernando Soto (Ester) of Salinas, Miguel "Mike" Soto (Beatrice) of Hollister, Jose Carmen Soto Jr. (Yvette) of Gilroy, Jesse Soto of San Martin, and Frank Vallez (Kimberly) of San Jose; and Godparents Allegra Soto and Dominic Chacon of Salinas. Andres additionally leaves behind many other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his Tata Jose Carmen Soto (2007), Tata Enrique Gracia (2014), and Nana Juana Soto (2017).
Andres was born August 23, 2012 in Los Banos, Ca. He was born with Holoprosencephaly (HPE), a rare brain condition. While the condition varies from one child to the next, Andres exceeded all expectations, as only 1% of children born with HPE live past 6 months. He lived his short life between Los Banos and Hollister. Starting from infancy, he received special services and therapies in his home to help him advance in development. He was a student at the C.A.R.E class in Los Banos, where he attended preschool for almost 2 school years. His teachers, nurses, and aides helped him slowly develop at his own pace and he enjoyed being in school. He additionally spent some time in Madera at Valley Children's Hospital, after numerous surgeries and illnesses, where he grew on many of the nurses and doctors.
Andres enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his cousins. He was superman to most of his family for his courage, strong will and the strength he always showed, even during his toughest of times. He always had the brightest smile on his face and radiated his positive energy to everyone. In his short life he brought a lot of love, joy and happiness into his family's lives.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 4-7 PM at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy with Vigil at 7:00 PM.
Celebration of Life will be held on April 29, 2017 at 1pm, location TBD in Hollister.
