Albert L. Cordova, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, dear friend and avid Arizona State University football fan, met his final time-out on September 4th, 2018 in Morgan Hill, California. 'Antelope Al,' as he was known during his notable high-school and college football careers, was born in Phoenix, Arizona on October 8 th , 1933.
His number one cheerleader and life partner of 61 years, Carolyn Bagge Cordova, continues to celebrate his legacy with their four children and their spouses; Rosemary Cordova Bayard (Gary), of Yellow Springs, Ohio; Jeffrey Cordova (Carmen) of Gilroy, California; Daniel Cordova, of Dublin, California; and Carlene Cordova (John Welch), of American Canyon, California. Their son, Gregory Cordova (Leslie), of Enon, Ohio, forged the way to the final football championship in 2007, where he is now joined by Al. Al's spirit will continue to be celebrated by a growing fan club of grandchildren, their partners and great grandchildren including; Kristina Cordova (Adam Winnick), Jackson and Rosemary Burmester; Amy Cordova Bailey (Jason), Gregory and Oliver Bailey; Kevin Cordova Pierce; David Cordova (Hannah Ohl) and Lilly Ohl; and Nicolas and Alec Cordova. Al's devotion and dedication to the honorary game of football was prominent in his life, which was underscored by his status as a Maroon Member of the ASU Alumni Association.
Al's passion for football was seconded only to his commitment and allegiance to the nation. He served in the US Army for eight years, earning the National Defense Service medal and rank of E5. After graduating from ASU as an Industrial Engineer and beginning his career at General Dynamics working on government defense projects including the Atlas missile program, Al was recruited by the Air Force's Foreign Technology Department to launch an exciting and rewarding profession in thwarting enemy aggression towards the United States. Al dedicated 28 years of his life to intelligence analysis, leadership responsibilities, liaison positions, and program management culminating in retirement with the highest civilian general service rank in 1992. Throughout his career, Al's achievements to defense of the nation were honored by multiple awards such as the AF Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service, the FTD Major General Watson Award, and multiple Certificates of Appreciation including one from the Director of the Intelligence Community Staff.
The multiple touchdowns in Al's life included his dedicated years of volunteer work to the City of Glendale, Arizona, after his retirement and to notable charities during his years with the Air Force. Al also led his team of devoted family and friends during off-season activities such as family camping and extensive travels, bowling with his best buds, and sponsoring dinner clubs and holiday-themed parties. Al was an avid attendee and dedicated supporter to the wide variety of his children's and grandchildren's sporting activities which ranged from his beloved football to barrel racing.
Al's life will be celebrated by family and friends on Saturday, 8 September 2018 at 1:00pm at the Woodland Estates Clubhouse, 850 W. Middle Ave in Morgan Hill, California. Interment will be held at the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery, 2900 Parker Flats Rd., Seaside, CA 93955, on Monday, September 10 th 2018 at 3:00pm.Gifts may be made in the name of Mr. Albert Cordova to the Memory and Aging Center at the University of California, San Francisco.
